Brewers Play Mistake-Free Baseball to Once Again Beat Marlins

Powerful Pitching and Hard Hits Result in a 5 Run Victory!

Updated Friday May 31, 2013 by David Solivan.

It was over 90 degrees F. when our Brewers stepped onto Willow Creek field on Thursday to once again face their hometown rivals the Marlins, but our boys didn't seem to feel the heat at all. On defense, "cool and collected" was the image that came to mind. TK and Tyler Manmiller looked like all-stars connecting for two double plays when we needed them most. Connor Boyle fielded the ball several times at third making amazing throws to first. One of those throws was on a hit that looked like it was going foul, but that instead got scooped up by Connor and beat the runner to the bag for an ESPN-worthy play. Catcher Beaudreaux Solivan blocked the ball well, and had a nice throw down to second catching a Marlin trying for the steal.
Our Brewers were also impressive on offense racking up 12 hits and 7 runs against the Marlins' ace pitcher. Janklin Rogers went 3 for 3 with three singles on three at bats. Ant Dearholt and T.K. both hit massive triples, though a minor collision with the Marlins first baseman meant that Ant had to be awarded third. We know that giraffe-speed would have gotten him there if that had not happened. Issac Keller hit a solid single and scored a run. Emerson Miles and Dakota Witman each drew two walks. There were also some close calls that very nearly brought in even more runs. Brandon George turned on an inside pitch to rip a vicious drive that was just barely caught by the Marlins short stop. And Kyle Letterman and Penny Penaloza were both swinging well and fouling off the junk.
However Coach Boyle, as usual, was not pleased. "The problem with this team is that they're one dimensional. All they do is make plays and win games!"  I tried to point out to Coach Boyle that that was two dimensions, but he was in no mood for excuses.
Each game is what you make it, Brewers, and last night you all made baseball look good! It was a pleasure to watch you all working together as a team and accomplishing things together. Our next game is tomorrow at noon when we face the KYAA D'Backs in a rematch of the battle at mud field. Tomorrow though, it's our house. Let's finish this one right.
