Brewers Batsmen Become Base Burglars to Beat D'Backs in 5!
22 stolen bases!
Updated Monday June 3, 2013 by David Solivan.
Our Brewers took the lead early on Saturday against the KYAA D'Backs, never gave it up and came away with a 13-2 win in 5 innings. Our boys played their usual excellent defense with Tyler Manmiller pitching a complete game and giving up only 2 runs on 8 hits. The Brewers bats made noise as well, and we finished the game with a .317 team batting average and 6 RBIs! Defensively, Emerson Miles caught a hard line drive at second for a key out, and TK and Jank Aaron Rogers combined to add yet another double play to our stat book.
But the real story in this game was aggressive baserunning. Third base coach Dave Rogers directed players like a general sending his troops to take the beachhead. At the end of the day, our Brewers had stolen 22 bases in five innings. Anthony Melendez Ortiz and Tyler Manmiller had 4 steals a piece to lead a pack of 9 Brewers who all stole a base or two.
Unfortunately after looking at the stats coach Boyle, as usual, was not pleased. "I expect 100% effort from these guys for all 7 innings!" exclaimed coach Boyle. I tried to explain to him that the game ended after the 5th inning, but he was in no mood for excuses.
We head into a three game set this week starting Tuesday 6/4 at our home field where we will host the Brandywine Red Sox. They are currently 2-1 and will be a tough challenge. If we play the way we have been playing, I think we'll be up to that challenge. I'll see you at 5:00 at Willow Creek on Tuesday for the game.
GO FLEETWOOD BREWERS!!!
